City Planning Department
Department Mission: To understand the values and goals of the community, to facilitate progress towards a shared vision of the City’s future, and to ensure the protection and balance of property rights and quality of life. Property owners interested in subdividing or developing their land are encouraged to consult with the Planning Department before moving forward.
Department Tasks: The department serves as staff to the City Plan Commission and the Historic District Commission. The Plan Commission is responsible for preparing important documents such as the Comprehensive Plan, and the annual Capital Budget. The City Plan Commission is also authorized to approve subdivisions of land, planned districts, and land development projects, and serves as a recommending body on ordinances, zoning amendments, variances and special use permits.
